An easy oat milk iced coffee recipe

While at Starbucks in Montreal this week, I tried their Iced Brown Sugar Oat Beverage Shaken Espresso. It’s a rather extravagant name for what’s essentially their signature Blond espresso, oat milk and ice, dressed up with brown sugar and cinnamon. It’s a lusciously sweet drink, which I realised I accidentally created myself not too long ago.

My rendition of the new Starbucks staple forgoes the extra calories. It’s foolproof, quick to make, and is the perfect sweet treat for the summer afternoons. But it’s the cinnamon that elevates the flavour, differentiating it from other iced coffee beverages. Without it, the drink is nothing if not mediocrity.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Espresso

  • Ice

  • 1 tsp vanilla syrup (Monin makes a great one)

  • Oat milk

  • Cinnamon powder

METHOD

  1. Take a tall glass and fill it with ice cubes.

  2. Prepare the espresso using your preferred method, adding a dash of vanilla syrup. Typically, I’ll do a long double espresso (around four ounces). A quicker alternative would be a Lungo on your Nespresso machine, if you have one, using whatever flavour you prefer—a vanilla pod would work great in this case.

  3. Pour the espresso into the ice-filled glass, and pour in some cold oat milk.

  4. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top.
