GalileOasis is a charming boutique hotel located across the canal from Bangkok's bustling commercial hub. The hotel draws its inspiration from the life and work of Galileo Galilei, the renowned Italian astronomer and physicist, whose story was masterfully portrayed in Bertolt Brecht's iconic play, Leben des Galilei (Life of Galileo). Originally built with 20 row house units for leasing, the overpopulated residence eventually fell into a state of disrepair, with some tenants turning their living quarters into dens of gambling and drug dealing. Recognising an opportunity to revive the property and transform it into a vibrant creative hub, the founders of GalileOasis pooled their resources and set to work.
Despite a limited budget, the six shareholders spared no effort in renovating the property and creating a welcoming common space that would attract visitors and audiences from all walks of life, fostering dialogue and dynamic cultural experiences. The founders of GalileOasis are well-connected to various creative sectors, both locally and internationally, including musicians, visual artists, designers, dancers/choreographers, theatre practitioners, film-makers, writers, and critics. They share Sir Herbert Read's belief that the Arts are crucial to individual and community quality of life, providing opportunities for expression, communication, and engagement, ultimately leading to greater openness of mind, improved listening skills, and new possibilities. Since its gradual opening at the end of 2021, GalileOasis has become a beloved gathering spot for friends, old and new, who come to invent, collaborate, or simply enjoy casual conversations amid the heady aroma of fresh coffee, the unique taste of ice-desserts, live music, and inspiring surroundings.
